You may or may not be familiar with the term "Sensory Processing Disorder" (SPD), I know I hadn't heard of it until my sister started researching some of the reasons my nephew was frankly so difficult to understand and deal with. It's not that he was doing something wrong, or trying to be a hard baby, but that the way he perceives different sensations tends to overwhelm him and being a baby it is hard for him to express what he is feeling. The more research my sister has done, the more tools she has found to try to help him handle his world more effectively and to try to decrease the things that cause him that overwhelm feeling. One of those tools is a weighted blanket.
In case you hadn't noticed, I rarely purchase something if I can save my family money by making it myself. I was able to do so in this case, so here are the steps I took to make a weighted blanket that is appropriate for my nephew as well as a bit more information about SPD.
